If You Don't Have Your Headphones Plugged in While Running this Application, You're a Terrible Human [Video]

If You Don't Have Your Headphones Plugged in While Running this Application, You're a Terrible Human

The world is made up of two kinds of people: those sadistic monsters who leave the key-board clicks turned on on their iPhones, and the sane angels who keep that shit off.

If you put yourself in category #1, boy, do I have a product for you! Noisy Typer is a free, open-source software for OS X, developed by Theo Watson, of the Free Art and Technology lab (F.AT.).

Built on openFrameworks version 0071, Noisy Typer runs in the background and will replicate the click clack sound of an oldtimey typewriter, while you compose your emails and pen your memoirs on your word processing program of choice.

Noisy Typer has a distinct sound for letter keys, the spacebar, backspace, return, scroll up, and scroll down—so if you're jonesing for a little Mad Men action, you can just power up Pages (or Word, or whatever), hit the keys, close your eyes—pour some Scotch?—and make believe you're sitting right in there in the center of Sterling, Cooper, Draper, Price.

...Otherwise, I'm not sure why you'd want to submit yourself to this kind of *cruel cacophony? [TheVerge via fffff]

*If you do, though, please be kind and keep your headphones plugged in at all times. Because you are probably the only terrible human on Earth who actually wants to hear this.

The Clever Cutouts On These Serving Trays Promise To Make Cafeteria Dining Less Terrible [Design]

Jul 7, 2012 5:00 PM

The Clever Cutouts On These Serving Trays Promise To Make Cafeteria Dining Less TerribleWhether it's at school, the hospital, or even at work, cafeteria dining is never really enjoyable. And it's not just the food, eating off a tray with a raised lip around the perimeter is awkward at best.

So why has it taken until now to come up with a solution as elegant as Zoocreative's Delica trays that feature a groove on either side where diners can comfortably rest their arms during a meal? Admittedly, the tray won't contain spills as easily as the traditional design, but it still allows you to easily carry multiple plates and glasses from the checkout to your table. We'd be tempted to encourage every fast food restaurant on the planet to adopt these, were it not for the Delica tray's ridiculous $79 price tag. Time to break out the scroll saw.

The Terrible Colorado Fire Scar Seen From Space [Image Cache]

Jul 9, 2012 10:00 AM

The Terrible Colorado Fire Scar Seen From SpaceThis is the scar left by the terrible Waldo Canyon Fire that burned through 18,247 acres (74 square kilometers) in Pike National Forest, three miles west of Colorado Springs. With 346 homes incinerated, two lives lost and hundreds of millions of dollars in damage, it was the most destructive fire in Colorado history.

Mountain Shadows was the suburb that was hit by the fire.

This image was captured by the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) on NASA's Terra satellite on July 4, 2012. It's a false color image: the bright red means untouched forest, light brown is some burning and the dark brown areas are severely burned. [Flickr]
